What makes a product DOH-compliant?
Washington’s medical cannabis program, administered by the Department of Health, sets a higher testing bar for medical-grade products. DOH-compliant products are tested for additional pesticides and heavy metals that most products in the regulated recreational market are not screened for.
How to spot them
Look for the DOH “General Use” compliance symbol (shown here) on the package — it certifies the product meets the Department of Health’s stricter quality standards. Registered cardholders buy these products sales-tax and excise-tax free at medically endorsed stores.

Why medically endorsed stores matter
Only stores with a medical endorsement from the state employ certified medical cannabis consultants, can enter you into the registry and issue your recognition card, and can sell DOH-compliant products to cardholders free of sales and excise tax. If you’re a medical patient, these are your stores.
Tip: not every endorsed store issues cards
All endorsed stores can sell to cardholders tax-free, but only some actively issued recognition cards last quarter. If you need to get or renew a card, use the “issued cards recently” filter on the map below — and call ahead to confirm a consultant will be available.
